Matthew carefully lifted up the mattress of his bed; holding the object half way into the air while the other still rested on the frame below. Sighing, he grabbed the envelope from under there and then carefully placing the mattress back down to where it belonged. The blond sat down on the bed with a plop and stared at the envelope.
His gaze shifted from the tattered old yellow piece to the sight in front of him. The figure of a short boy propped up against the wall. Inside the envelope was his savings, or rather, the little bit that was left of it after this purchase. The bot had been on reduced in price due to one or another glitch in its system. Not that it mattered to Matthew, his curiousity and thirst for answers were what led him to this moment. If it was worth it, the Canadian wouldn't know until he turned the bot on.
He swallowed, sitting up from the bed and slipping the tattered envelope back under the mattress; walking to the bot and bending down to look at it better. Instructions laying just to the side. Matthew couldn't help but scratch his head. He had been trying to get it on for the last hour or so, but was not having so much luck with it. Simply put, technology often escaped him since he didn't have a whole lot in terms of electronics. His poorly outdated phone a prime example of that.
After looking over the instructions once more, Matthew tilted the head slightly forward. Finding the compartment he was looking for and opening it. He swallowed, quickly turning the bot to the 'ON' setting and closing the latch. Taking a step back... [/blockquote]

It took a moment for Rai to wake up, so to speak. When he did finally become fully functional, he was first confused by the change in scenery. He took a step away from the wall and looked around the room, seeming completely bewildered by the new area. After a moment of that, Rai focused on the man standing in front of him. Correction, his owner standing in front of him.
Rai wasn’t sure what to do to greet the man. Should he just say hello? Shake his hand? How was he supposed to do this? Instead of saying something like he wanted to, Rai only started shaking as he always did. He was shaking before of course, as this problem never ceases, but now it only became more noticeable.
He took a step closer to the man, immediately regretted his decision, and took a larger step backwards. Why was this so difficult? Rai knew what he was supposed to do, but not how to go about it. What if he was only making his owner uncomfortable? That was surely the opposite thing to do.
“Um.” Rai searched for something to say, still not sure what would be the right thing. Maybe he should just stick with his earlier thought: say hi. That’s all. “Hello?”
(AND WOW THIS IS REALLY BAD I PROBABLY MESSED EVERYTHING UP I'M SO SORRY I SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS AT SCHOOL)

Matthew swallowed a second time as the bot booted-up. Still wondering if this was such a good idea. The silence between them, as if no recognition aside from eye contact was cause for concern. Though, once he other started shaking a pang of worry settled within him.
Rai looked so much like a real kid and already Matthew had to remind himself otherwise. Carefully, he took a step forward; wanting to ask if the other was alright, regardless. Though, stopped in his tracks when the bot attempted the same, only for the other to take a rather large step back.
How were you supposed to act when you met your bot for the first time? Sure, Matthew had a plethora of questions he wanted to ask. But, that wasn't really appropriate for this situation right?
"Um. Hello?"
The blond smiled at the bot, getting down to eye level like he had when Rai was still in his off position. "Hello, it's nice to meet you." he offered; maybe the other just needed some sort of encouragement. "What's your name?"
Naturally, the manual had stated his name. But, it was only polite to ask when you met someone for the first time, right? [/blockquote]

Rai looked down at his feet when his owner had crouched down in front of him. It was only for a moment until he realized what he was doing and looked back up again. The other was smiling, so should he be smiling too? It sure seemed like the time to be smiling, though Rai was unsure.
“I’m Rai,” the bot said a bit quietly. “It’s um, nice to meet you too?” He gave a small smile, testing out his thought earlier thought. He was almost sure it was the right reaction, but he just couldn’t be positive. If it wasn’t, well, then he wasn’t making a very good first impression.
What was he supposed to do then? Just continue to stand there? Ask his owner what to do? There were actually many things he could have done, but none of them were actually done. Rai was unsure which option to take and instead just decided to stand there, hoping his owner would tell him what to do. That way he wouldn’t have to just stand there, looking almost awkward without anything to do.

The Canadian let out a small chuckle, watching how the bot reacted before holding out a hand. "And, I'm Matthew." he announced in a friendly and non-condensending manner.
Matthew had learned early on that children responded better to being talked to like equals. Well, in the cases he had encountered, at the very least. To him, Rai looked like a kid; certainly having the stature and looks of one. It was... so hard to distinguish between bot and human sometimes.
The blond was thinking, racking his brain for anything to say. What could he say? He hadn't really planned any of this out. And had sort of hoped that he didn't have to give out orders. He wasn't a very authoritive figure. "S-so, what would you like to do?" he asked. [/blockquote]

Rai looked lost when Matthew had stretched out his hand to him. The bot knew what he was supposed to do, I mean who wouldn’t, but he was just…a bit confused. After a moment of just staring at him, Rai shook the other’s hand cautiously. He tried hard to steady his hand, but it was just impossible. He hoped Matthew wouldn’t care that he couldn’t stop shaking. All the people before had cared greatly and even seemed upset by it.
“S-so, what would you like to do?”
What would he like to do? Rai ran this question over and over again in his head, but he just couldn’t find an answer. Besides, wasn’t it Matthew’s job to tell him what he was supposed to do? Maybe he had this whole thing messed up. Maybe it wasn’t just the shaking that was wrong with him.
“Well, uh, what do you want me to do?” Rai asked, his voice sounding a bit nervous.

Matthew remained at level with the rather short bot, bringing a hand to the back of his own neck and rubbing it nervously in thought. No, he most certainly hadn't thought this far. Maybe it was wishful thinking on the blond's part that Rai would have a will of his own. Then again, had that not been partial reason for purchasing one in the first place?
Sighing, he continued to think for a moment. Matthew was not one for giving orders. He had established this a long time ago. He even ha a hard time keeping some of the kids at bay at times. A simple 'no' could sometimes result in a temper tantrum or a snarky comment from someone older. Still...
"Well, um... Just... Be yourself." he nodded to himself, offering the other a bright smile. "It'd be nice to have some help, though. But don't feel obligated to do anything."
He rubbed the back of his neck again. Was that even possible? He most certainly should have thought this out more. [/blockquote]

Be himself? Was that what he was supposed to do? It sounded hard, mostly because Rai wasn’t exactly sure what it even meant. He was himself, wasn’t he? It’s not like he was someone else. It was confusing, just to say the least.
“I, uh, don’t really get what that means.” He spoke very quietly, almost not wanting Matthew to hear him. He was still afraid to say something wrong. By how confusing the situation was so far, he was sure he had already said the wrong words.
“Is it like, uh, you don’t want me to do anything?” Rai asked. He hoped that that was not the case. He didn’t know what he would do if it was.

Shoot.
Well, it was wishful thinking on his part. The silent tone of voice did little to mask the words; Matthew himself was a soft-spoken man and actually had decent enough hearing. It was almost like looking at a smaller version of himself in a way. Although, it seemed like the bot was far more timid than he was as a child. Something Matthew may not have found possible up until this point.
"W-well, um..." he rubbed the back of his neck again, attempting to find the words. "Just don't feel obligated to do anything. I-if I need help I'll ask; but for the most part, I just want you to do what you'd like to do." Matthew felt like he was simply re-stating the same thing, but was unsure how really to explain it to Rai. The blond only understood that Bots were human at one point in time, but that was the extent of his knowledge. There was so much to learn. [/blockquote]

But, Rai didn’t know what he wanted to do. He wanted to do what Matthew wanted him to do, but apparently that wasn’t allowed. Was it allowed? Maybe Matthew was just playing with him. Yes, that was definitely it. But, Rai didn’t like being messed with. He hoped this wasn’t going to become a recurring thing.
“But, I don’t—. Um.” Rai put his head down and stared at the floor and started messing with the button on his shirt, just as a nervous habit. He had no idea what he was supposed to say. Maybe if he just stayed silent, Matthew would tell him. It seemed a better choice than what he had been doing before, so it was worth a shot.

Matthew went quiet for awhile when the other lowered his head, frowning a but sadly. A few minutes of ownership and he was already messing up terribly. But, really, the blond had no clue what to do.
Maybe...
He thought for a moment, a small smile finally making its way back to his face. Maybe introducing him to the others would be a good idea. "Rai, I'd like it if you could help me with something right now, if you want." Matthew pointed to his door, they would have to go to the study. "Follow me." he instructed.
Walking out of the room, Matthew went to the door a little ways down, opening it quietly and stepping inside. It was a fairly small room; there was a bookshelf and a desk. That was it. The desk, instead of positioned in the middle like in most studies, was securely against the wall.
The blond turned and smiled at Rai, "I'm going to show you a secret in this room. But, you can't tell anyone about it, okay?" [/blockquote]

“I’d like it if you could help me with something right now, if you want.” Rai sighed – as if he was relieved – and looked up at the other, smiling back. Maybe what he was doing was right after all. This whole job was actually quite confusing so far, but it seemed like that was going to change. Well, Rai hoped it would change.
When Matthew led him into the study, Rai took a moment to look around. It looked like a pretty normal office to him, but Matthew had stated just a second after he finished looking around there was a secret in the room. Whatever it was, it was really hidden. Rai couldn’t find anything wrong with the room, which actually bugged him a bit.
“I promise,” Rai responded, speaking a bit louder now than he had been before.

Matthew flashed the other an approving smile, he knew that that promise would stick; or at least, he hoped so. Bots were not ones for ratting out their masters, right? The blond sure hoped not and by the looks of Rai, doubt he would anyway.
Wheeling the chair away from the desk, Matthew pushed in a small button before pulling the desk out and away from the wall. A small staircase leading down into the ground. "I work two jobs, so I might not be around too too much. But, when I'm not home there is something I'd like for you to do down here." waving him over, the Canadian started walking down the stairs, feeling the wall as he went for the light switch that was contained there. When finally stumbling upon it, the lights turned on; illuminating the somewhat surprisingly short staircase and the hallway leading forward. [/blockquote]

Rai watched with a surprised expression, maybe even a bit confused as well. He stayed close to Matthew, but had hesitated a bit in front of the staircase. Rai hadn’t really wanted to go down the stairs, seeing as he didn’t know what was down there. But, not wanting Matthew to get upset with him, Rai had followed anyway.
He just responded to Matthew’s statement with a nod. That was honestly what he had been expecting. Being how small he is and all, he had expected to be more of a maid than anything else. That was what Matthew was going to ask him to do, right? Now that Rai thought a bit more about it, he wasn’t entirely sure. He hoped it was just cleaning. He really hoped it was only cleaning.
(I did this at school because I realized it's been a long time to put this off and I'm sorry this is really bad fjdsajnvd)

Showing was better than telling, for Matthew, there were no words he could use to make the bot more comfortable with the situation. And he knew that there could be no secrets between them in regards to what Matthew did in his spare time. Rai would be valuable and a fantastic help in this department. Though, a part of him regretted bringing someone else into this mess he managed to dig for himself.
Leading the way down the hallway, a door wasn't far from sight. It was but a simple wooden door, but enough to ward away any drafts and such. Also keeping the light from inside, inside, and not visible out. Carefully, Matthew opened the door as some childrens laughter invaded the silence.
He could barely contain a smile when a few of the kids, mostly between 8-12 all ran up at the sight of visitors. A few regarding the other boy in Matthew's presence with a bit of intrigue. The older folks waved and said their 'hello's' mostly from the beds or tables where they were chatting with others their age.
The whole area looked like one large bedroom. Beds on either side, a small pantry near the end, some table and chairs, and a small play area in the far corner of the room. Matthew tended to add things in whenever he got the chance, but it usually required that he'd have to rearrange. At present, there were only about fifteen people here, but most were older and out look for jobs at the moment.
Picking up one of the younger girls, Matthew turned to face Rai, "Everyone, this is Rai. He's going to be staying with us from now on." Almost on cue, a couple of the children ran up to the bot. [/blockquote]
