Personality:
Everyone who has the pleasure to come across Kateryna Braginskaya would find themselves in one of the greatest company. Kateryna was raised to be a lady, reserved and thoughtful, knowing when to speak and how to behave in social situations. She can easily adjust herself to fit nearly any personality, as she finds pleasure in all sorts of company.
This side of her is what she allows everyone to see, she could never share her deepest feelings, she couldn't possibly bother anyone with her feelings of depression. She would be the first person to share a meal with you, but she would never say a word about what she really feels or think.
But no matter what she thinks of herself, she is actually very kind and gentle-hearted, loving and caring to all she meets. She doesn't realizes it, but her very presence can be a great comfort to so many people, if only she could regain some confidence to have comfort with herself. these days, she can hardly stand being alone, because her thought patterns always takes a turn for the worse.
History:
Kateryna Braginskaya was once a dreamer, being born into a rich family she never knew hunger or pain. In fact her world was rather bright most of the time, the only cloud in her perfect sky came in the form of her father, who she always had difficulty to love as much as her mother.
She remembers dearly the first four years of her life, the days she and her mother would spend in the nursery playing dolls together. When Maria told her little Katyusha that she was going to be an older sister, the child was very excited. It would be fun! She believed whole-heartedly, the girl didn’t mind sharing especially if it means there would be a new person to join their games of hide and seek. For the first couple of months of Maria’s pregnancy, Kateryna would ask her mother every day if the baby would soon arrive. Maria was very patient with her little girl and would always laugh and send her off on her way.
The feelings of excitement and of wanting a younger sibling only changed when her father took her mother away from playtime.
“You shouldn’t be playing with her, you need to think about my son. If that happens again…”
For a short moment that cloud, her father, turned dark and covered the entire sky. The look in his eye as he glanced back at her….terrified her. She hoped to never see that look directed at her again.
This was when Maria hired a nanny for Kateryna, in fact it was an extended family member of hers from the Ukraine. Katya loved her nanny very dearly, but still missed her mother. She reconciled herself with thoughts that once the baby was born that she with her mother and baby brother would all play together. It was only a matter of being patient.
The months seemed to pass by all too slowly for the young child and her father. It was the first time that Kateryna ever felt she shared something in common with the father, they both wanted this baby born to be born.
She prayed every night that her little brother would be healthy. when Maria was about eight months pregnant, Kateryna had a terrible dream. She dreamt that her little brother was crying and that no one was trying to help him. Instead of seeking her nanny for comfort, Katya was to worried about her mother and her little brother in her tummy.
she tiptoed past her father's side of the bed, that faced the door. Hoping that he would continue sleeping, he was never happy before when she would come in to see them at night, and now with the baby....Well, it was an unspoken rule now, is what she thought.
For a long moment, Kateryna just stared at her mother's tummy, Maria had kicked down the blankets obviously the second person within her keeping her warm enough without the blanket. The girl moved closer and reached out to touch her mother's stomach, the moment she touched it, she felt a kick against her small hand. Kateryna drew her breath and then placed her head against, wanting to hear if her little Vanya was crying....
Maria shifted and woke when the head laid down upon her stomach. The baby was restless all night so she was already pretty tired, and that exhaustion seemed to dim any surprise she would have normally felt.
"Katyusha...What are you doing?"
The girl looked at her mother with teary eyes, sorry that she woke her up, but she couldn't voice anything. Sitting up Maria, cringed as she rubbed Kateryna's back. Shushing and soothing her. "It's alright, did you have a bad dream, why don't you tell Mama all about it?"
She could only nod mutely, her eyes darting to her father's sleeping form, she wished her mother would speak more quietly. Because she would only be chased away if he woke up...
And then suddenly her wish came true, her mother was quiet...too quiet. The girl barely registered that something wet seemed to sweep through from under them, moving away from the hug to look up at her mother's face, she saw how pained she looked. And when the loud gasp that Maria was trying so hard to keep back escaped her lips, her father woke up.
He was quite startled at first but with one look at his wife, he knew exactly what was going on- and when he saw his daughter, he yelled. "No it's too soon!" He jumped out of his side of his bed and went around and grabbed Kateryna by the arm. "This is your fault -if my son dies it'll be your fault!"
the little girl could hear her mother yelling out at him in between gasps 'don't blame her' and 'don't be stupid she can't have caused this-!', but he simply slammed the door behind them. Kateryna was being dragged on her toes, her arm was hurting, she was crying, and judging by how sore her throat was now, she was yelling how sorry she was.
She only wanted to make sure the baby was alright.
Her father threw her against the wall, resulting in a dislocated shoulder, but he was too busy calling for the maids to notice, much less care. Kateryna rushed back and hid in her room, the tears couldn't stop, and no one came to check up on her, not until after the baby was born.

For the first two years of little Ivan's life, Kateryna stayed clear from him whenever her father was home. But the moment Nikolai stepped out that front door, Kateryna would be run about the mansion in search of her mother and baby brother. These few stolen moments together were everything Kateryna always dreamed it would be. Her little vanya was as sweet as she always hopped he would be. She was just so happy, and her mother too looked happy, watching them play together.
But since Nikolai was at home most of the time Kateryna became closer and closer with her nanny, it was the same person that found Kateryna wounded on the night Ivan was born. Since nothing was wrong with Ivan, the girl was lucky that her father’s wrath was calmed. In fact for the first couple years of Ivan's life, Nikolai almost seemed happy.
Almost, Kateryna isn't certain what happened, but for an unexplained reason, her father wasn't satisfied with their wonderful little Ivan. And his drinking got worse and worse... And Maria, her mother, started to change as well, as Ivan grew older, her affection started to regain it's focus on her darling little Katyusha.
Kateryna started dreaming about her little brother crying again, when she couldn't stand it any longer she approached the one person she could trust in this world. Her nanny, and her nanny explained it to little Katya, that people's bad feelings, can be passed onto others. Kateryna promised that she would never let her parents change her. That she would always be good and love her little Ivan.
Nanny simply patted her head and gave her some yarn. "Something simple like knitting can make you stronger, you see, Katya. You want to love your brother always, da?"
Kateryna nodded.
"Then you knit, and every time you knit -you think of him. You'll see, it will help."
-
Not too long after Kateryna mastered the basics, she learned that her father was abusing Ivan. Kateryna took her favourite yarn and began working on a scarf, with every stitch she prayed for her little brother. She didn't stopped knitting until her hands were covered with blisters.
"This is for you, Vanya. I love you, don't forget.."
-
But as they grew older, Kateryna's parents found ways to keep her away from Ivan, she was allowed to go and stay in the Ukraine every summer and live with her nanny. And during the school year, Kateryna was admitted to an all-girl boarding school. The most time she would spend with her family would be during winter vacation, the Braginski mansion became this wintery prison, that the growing Kateryna wanted to do nothing but escape from. the only one she would truly miss, was her brother. True to her nanny's word, whenever she knit, all she could think about was her brother, and hope that he was happy.
And only a little while after her youngest sister was born, did Maria and Nikolai regret sending their daughter to an all boarding school.
When they received the phone call from the nuns that ran the school, that Kateryna was caught kissing a girl from her class she and that student were expelled. When she returned home, her father refused to even look at her, while her mother poured all of her attention into her, trying to remedy this sickness.
She put up with this life for a year, before running away. Her life on the run, sadly wasn't easier than the life she escaped. In fact, every day Kateryna felt haunted by her past, to a point where it stifled the present and the future.
So many years, but not a day went by that her thoughts creeped back to her darling little siblings.
It was getting so bad that one day she realised she was turning into her father, she didn't mean to- but she struck her girlfriend. Her girlfriend wasn't angry at her, she knew it to be an accident, (Katya was always disoriented after too much to drink) but the memory of her father, drinking and striking her Vanya, killed the woman on the inside. she couldn't escape her past, she needed to go back...
She had thought this many times, but never went through it. Not until after her girlfriend left her did she actually buy that ticket. Kateryna had kept track of her siblings, unlike herself, they became successful and well known, a quick google search and she found out easily where her brother the owner of BODARK Vodka and her sister the prima ballerina were.

Kateryna was always uncomfortable around men, she wondered if it was because the only man in her life was her father (Ivan was her little brother, he was different from other men). When she was growing up she was only ever around women, and even as a child she preferred to play with the other little girls, the boys often tugged at her hair and made fun of her chubby cheeks.
Now even though she keeps her hair short, men still tugged at her. But now at her figure, every week, the girls school would meet with the boys school for church and free time in the park. While she would be chatting with her friends, the boys would try to call her over and make obscene gestures, normally in reference to her chest.
'Don't pay them any attention,' she would remind herself. She did her best to ignore them, but now her friends were inviting the boys over. Kateryna swallowed nervously. One of her friends flirted with all the boys, but one boy in particular wouldn't stop staring at her. She shifted closer to her closest friend at the time, who looked equally as uncomfortable about the boys presence.
And when she finally let her guard down, she felt a hand on her chest, she reacted before she could think. Tears sprang up her eyes as she threw a punch, she barely heard the crunch that followed.
She blinked back her tears as the guys ran off. Her friends were asking her if she was okay, she was still crying, her arm...It hurt. But nowhere near as much as her pride.
